Journey:
I’ve been using budgeting apps since I was in school — juggling between apps, phones, and platforms. Some had amazing UI/UX but lacked depth. Others were feature-rich but painful to use. I never really felt at home with any of them.
When Apple announced SwiftData at WWDC 2023, I was genuinely excited. I tried it out on the Xcode beta, thrilled by the idea of finally moving away from Core Data. But that excitement quickly turned into disappointment — the first release was missing key features like index macros, @ModelActor, and much of it felt like a black box.
So I waited.
Then came 2024, and with it, huge improvements to SwiftData. Something lit up in my brain:
“Why don’t I finally build the dream finance and budgeting app I always wanted, while learning SwiftData along the way?”
That thought took me back to the drawing board — rethinking the entire stack, design system, target demographic, and what people like me actually want from a budgeting tool. It took about 7 months to get the first beta out. What started as a weekend project slowly picked up traction.
Every piece of the codebase runs on the latest and greatest Swift. While I haven’t fully migrated to Swift 6.2 yet, it's close — no GCD, just pure Swift Concurrency.
Dimewise packs all the features you’d expect in a modern budgeting app — but implemented in a cleaner, faster, and more intuitive way. And that’s just the beginning. Right now, I’m exploring the Foundation framework and on-device intelligence APIs from iOS 18 to push the app even further.
Dimewise is personal — and I’m building it for people who just want a better way to manage their money, without the noise.
